Maria Polyakov graduated from Stroganov Academy in Moscow with a Master's degree in Applied Arts.

Through the years she has worked with architects and interior designers creating numerous theater curtains, wall panels and handwoven, big scale tapestries for residential and office spaces. Her latest stage curtain was commissioned by “Cherry Orchard” drama theater in Moscow, Russia.

She creates unique, hand woven tapestries by “sculpting" them with yarn, each customized with designs based on personal memories and reflections on traveling to different regions and countries to create impressions of different places and architectural styles.

Maria’s flat tapestries with abstract compositions create optical 3D illusions that change spatial perception of the interior. In her recent works she steps away from the traditional flat weaving technique and creates unique 3D woven structures.
